Gas Prices...OUTRAGEOUS

As you made the drive home tonight, you may have been shocked at the prices at the pump. Gas prices in the Miami Valley went up as high as $3.45/gallon. The price hike comes as oil hit a new record of $110 a barrel.

Industry insiders say it's the refineries that are causing all the trouble with gas prices. Others blame taxes on the gas and who we're getting it from. No matter the cause, consumers are feeling the pinch on their purses and wallets.

One thing is for sure, prices are partially set by supply and demand. I'm not just talking about U.S. demand but also world demand. It's one of those basic marketing principals many of us learn in middle or high school. My advice, time to start carpooling! I know many of you would love to sound off about our oil and gas issues....so here you go.......

Hello Mr.Oliphant, I just wanted to comment on the rising price of oil and other goods. I see allot of news coverage on the awful fall of the once mighty dollar and the rising price of oil, most recently I have noticed a few reports on groceries. This is really starting to bend the U.S and I fear we are not to far from breaking, but like my dad said once "if you bend it to far your already broke it". I have noticed allot of other things that have gone up such as fast food, medical care, home gas prices, labor prices for cars home ect, and it is scary to see so many people losing houses and jobs as well. We can cut corners to survive and put gas in our car but when you have kids the pinch really hurts. There is no way to cut enough corners to make up for the cost of gas, food, medical expenses, and everything else going up when your on a budget already, plus the raises you get at work don't even begin to cover the raising costs. for example I am an average family Me,Wife and 2 kids....if you make $20.00 an hour at 40 hours a week, and you get a 3% raise you now make $20.60 an hour, so you make an extra $96.00 a month before taxes. my grocery bill has went from about $75.00 a week to near $100.00 a week. here in the Miami Valley the price per gallon of gas has rose almost 60 cents from this time last year. between our 2 cars we have to buy about 16 gallons a week rasing my weekly gas bill from about $46.00 a week to about $56.00 a week. just those 2 things going up Gas for our cars and groceries we are spending $140.00 more a month then this time last year. And that is before you add the raising cost of DP&L and Vectrin Gas, not to mention all the other things that have rose. You don't even see the benefit of the raise at all, and plus the cost of all this stuff is going even higher. I just don't see how the average American can maintain at the rate we are going. No one talks about how to fix the U.S all I hear is about how bad of shape we are in and how bad of shape we are heading, its like there is no hope. Someone needs to come up with a plan before we are in a hole we can never dig out of.
