Taxation Frustration

I want to bring you the story of a viewer who got the runaround with the Ohio Department of Taxation. He shares the same name with his deceased father and that's where the problem started. He has a step you can take to get some assistance...his story is below.

In late February I received a letter from Ohio Dept of Taxation informing me of their intent to offset and withhold my 2007 tax refund. The letter instructed me to contact The Ohio Attorney General's office and also provided an account number to reference. After swimming through a number of automated menus I was instructed to contact Value Recovery, the AG's collection agency. Upon doing this I spoke to a polite yet clueless agent, what I mean is she had no information about the debt being offset. She informed me to give her about a week to request the information from The Bureau of Workmans Compensation. I informed her that my father owned a business in the early 1990's and that he was deceased and that I am a Jr. and he a Sr. After a number of follow up calls to the collection agency and getting no assistance I phoned the Attorney Generals Consumer Protection Division at 800-282-0515. After transfered around department to department I was given a number that after numerous attempts was never answered I got creative. I went to tax.ohio.gov went to the link to check the status of my refund, this informed me that my refund was being held and handled manually and referenced yet another 800 number. Finally I spoke to an agent in the Akron Service Center who listened and promised to email someone who could help. 24 hours later true to her word an agent from her office contacted me informing me that my refund would be released.
This whole process took approximately 2 1/2 hours over a two week period. I worked in the debt collection industry for 14 years, giving me the knowledge to connect the dots. What about those who don't know?
